There has been a lot of back and forth floating around the internet talking about the U.N. Arm Trade Treaty that Hillary Clinton will sign on July 27th on behalf of the United States.
Under this treaty, will be a close monitoring of weapons ownership and a possible weapons ban here in the US.
Many people see this a the President’s way to circumvent the Second Amendment of the Constitution (right to bear arms) by signing an international treaty that supersedes the Constitution and then have 2/3 of the Senate vote to repeal. This is how I understand it to work.
My largest concern is the potential for the UN to possibly obtain the records of my gun purchases. I can just imagine taking a trip overseas and have a foreign official ask me about me gun ownership as I pass though passport control.
I took about 45 minutes today to find out how my name is linked to my guns. What I found out was interesting here in Florida.
1. Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) conducts a criminal background check of a person legally purchasing a firearm at a store. The application contains name, address, often times a SSN and of course the serial number of the gun. Once the background check comes back negative the sale is approved and FDLE purges your information from the system.
2. Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) is a totally different story. They do keep an extensive database on gun ownership linked to the registered serial number of that gun. An ATF officer is blocked from seeing how many guns a person owns by plugging in a name or address (due to privacy laws) but can look up a gun owner by serial number of the gun.
It is possible that if this treaty stands this information will be available on a worldwide level in every single government database.
Anti-gun activists have no problem with this treaty and basically call the NRA a bunch or right wing lunatics.
If our Government is so happy to give out gun ownership information where does it stop?
I wonder how the anti-gun lobby would like to be in a worldwide database of sexual orientation, religion, wealth status and so on?
This is a very slippery slope we’re on here and Americans as Americans must unite against governmental actions like this unless we all want to live in a virtual world of slavery.
What I find totally bizarre about this treaty, is the Western Worlds willingness to bow down to U.N. on a global level. The fact that the worlds largest despots, dictators, and human right violators have any say in Western culture blows me away. Many of the members of the UN wrote the book on “Ethnic Cleansing” and I guess are worried about their own countries populations being able to stand up for themselves.
